The Logic: We use the GCD algorithm to mathematically strip down your resolution to its simplest integer form.
Result: 800x600 → 4:3.

The Logic: We use cross-multiplication to find the missing variable ($X$) so the image scales perfectly without distortion.
Result: Width 500px (16:9) → Height 281px.
Understanding Common Aspect Ratios
An aspect ratio describes the proportional relationship between the width and height of an image. It is usually expressed as two numbers separated by a colon, like 16:9.

The Math Behind the Tool
How do we know that 1920x1080 is 16:9? We don't guess; we calculate using the Greatest Common Divisor (GCD).
Step 1: Find the largest number that divides both Width and Height evenly.
- For 1920 and 1080, the GCD is 120.
Step 2: Divide the original dimensions by the GCD.
- 1920 ÷ 120 = 16
- 1080 ÷ 120 = 9
Result: 16:9 Ratio.
For Resizing (Cross-Multiplication):
If you know the Width ($W$) and the Ratio ($R_w:R_h$), the formula for Height ($H$) is:
H = (W / R_w) × R_h
Frequently Asked Questions
1080p usually refers to a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. This is a 16:9 aspect ratio, the standard for High Definition (HD) television and web video.
You simply flip the numbers! A 16:9 horizontal video becomes 9:16 when vertical. If your video is 1920x1080, the vertical version would be 1080x1920.
If you change the width/height independently, the image will stretch or squash (distortion). To avoid this, you must "Lock the Aspect Ratio." Our calculator does this automatically by computing the missing dimension based on the ratio math.
Yes. Standard UHD 4K is 3840 x 2160 pixels, which reduces mathematically to exactly 16:9.
