Discount Calculator: Find Your Final Price (With Tax)

Shopping for a deal? Stop doing mental gymnastics in the aisle. The Countimator Discount Calculator instantly calculates your final payable amount, showing you exactly how much cash you save.

💡 The "Hidden" Cost: Sales Tax

Most discount tools fail because they ignore tax.
In retail, tax is almost always applied after the discount is taken off (on the "Subtotal"), not on the original sticker price. Our tool follows this correct retail logic to give you the penny-perfect total you'll see at the register.

How to Use This Calculator

Example: How We Calculate It

Let's say you are buying a $100 jacket with a 20% discount and 8% sales tax.

Step 1: The Discount

First, we calculate the savings on the original price.

$100 × 0.20 = $20.00 (You Save)
$100 - $20 = $80.00 (New Subtotal)

Step 2: The Tax

Tax is calculated on the $80 subtotal, NOT the $100.

$80 × 0.08 = $6.40 (Tax Amount)
Final Total: $86.40

Frequently Asked Questions

To find the sale price, multiply the original price by the decimal version of the percentage, then subtract that result.
Formula: Original Price - (Original Price × 0.20)
Shortcut: Multiply the price by 0.80 (which represents the 80% you are actually paying).

In 99% of retail stores, sales tax is applied after the discount. You only pay tax on the amount you actually spend.
Exception: Manufacturer Rebates are sometimes taxed on the full original price before the rebate is mailed to you.

No! This is a common mistake. You cannot just add them to get 30% off. Stores usually apply "Stacked Discounts" sequentially.
Example ($100 item):
1. Take 20% off $100 = $80.
2. Take 10% off the remaining $80 = $8.
3. Final Price = $72 (Total savings is 28%, not 30%).

Divide the sale price by the "percentage you paid."
Example: You paid $40 for a jacket that was 50% off.
Divide $40 by 0.50 = $80 (Original Price).

If you buy two identical items, "Buy One Get One 50% Off" equals a total discount of 25% per item.
"Buy One Get One Free" equals a total discount of 50%.

Use this formula: (Difference ÷ Original Price) × 100.
Example: A $50 shirt is sold for $40. The difference is $10.
$10 ÷ $50 = 0.20 (20% Off).
