How Age is Calculated Globally
In most Western countries, your age increases only on your birthday. If you are 20 years and 11 months old, you are still considered "20" until the day you turn 21. This calculator uses that standard international system.
Cultural Differences: Western vs. East Asian
Did you know age isn't counted the same everywhere? In some traditional Chinese systems, a baby is considered "1 year old" at birth, and everyone's age increases on the Lunar New Year, not their specific birthday. This means a baby born the day before New Year's could legally be "2 years old" just two days later!
Understanding the Calendar Quirks
Calculating the exact interval between two dates is tricky because months have different lengths (28, 30, or 31 days).
- Leap Years: Every 4 years, February gets an extra day (29th). This calculator automatically accounts for that.
- Month Endings: Calculating from Feb 28 to Mar 31 can be confusing. We use the standard method where "one month" is completed on the same date of the following month (e.g., Feb 20 to Mar 20).
